Heavy metal powerhouses Saxon played three headline dates in February 2018 in support of their upcoming 22nd studio album ‘Thunderbolt’.
These were the opening dates of their Thunderbolt 2018 European Tour that also includes shows in the Netherlands and Germany, Saxon have Played shows in Cardiff, Cambridge and Last Night was Hull’s Visit, with support from Diamond Head, Rock Goddess and Magnum who only played on the Hull date.
The whole show has a classic 1980’s heavy rock vibe, with brilliant lights, smoke combined with a selection of new album tracks such as “Sniper” and” “Predator”, Saxon opened the set with “Thunderbolt” the self titled track from the latest album, Thundering through a back catalogue of hits from albums including “Denim & Leather”, “Strong Arm of the Law” and “Wheels of steel” with the classics songs of “Dallas 1pm” and “Never Surrender”.
Biff Byford appears to show no signs of slowing down, along with guitarist Paul Quinn who has been in the band from 1977 to the present. Second guitarist Doug Scarratt has been with the group for 21 years, and the twin-axe attack has become incredibly slick in that time. Drummer Nigel Glockler was first there from 1981 and has had a couple of stints since then, adding up to a mere 30 years behind the enormous kit.
